  • Do I have to have any martial arts experience?

    No. You will learn all you need to know by training with our experienced instructors and other students. We have plenty of students who all have different levels of experience, so you will always have great people to train with.
     
  • Does the membership price include all the classes?

    Yes.
     
  • Do I need any equipment?

    You will need a cup and a mouthpiece, which you can find at any sporting goods store. A T-shirt and shorts are perfect to wear. We have everything else you will need. If you wish to buy your own equipment, go to www.fairtex.com, or talk to one of the instructors.
     
  • Can I try it out before I join?

    Of course you can. We want you to come in and take all the classes to see which ones you like. Once you feel comfortable with the fighting academy and are sure it is something you want to do, you can sign up.
     
  • Am I going to get a better workout at J.W.FA. then at the gym?

    An MMA training regiment is actually one of the best workouts you can subject yourself to. It involves strength training, conditioning, cardio fitness, muscular tension, and anaerobic conditioning. Muscle and Fitness actually ranked grappling workouts as one of the best fat burning exercises you can do.
     
  • What if I have no interest in fighting?

    No problem. Not everyone who walks in ours doors wants to fight. Some people want to get in shape, some want to build their confidence, and others just want to lose some excess fat. Whatever your fitness goals are, J.W.F.A. has a program for you.
     
  • Do I have to spar?

    Only if you want to. Everyone has their own reasons for getting involved. We want you to achieve your goals, not ours. You go at your own pace and let us know what you are after.
     
  • How long will it take for me to become proficient?

    It should take about a month for you to stop feeling as if you have no clue what you are doing. Then, a couple more months for you to build some confidence in your ability. Within about six months, you should start getting good. However, to get really proficient will take years. Just remember, the more time you dedicate, and the more serious you become, the quicker you will improve.
     
  • Should I get shape before I join?

    No! We are a fitness facility. Each time you come to class you will get in better shape then the time before. The MMA workout was designed to, not only teach you how to fight, but also to get you in shape.
     
  • Do you offer self defense training?

    Yes. We want you become the best all around martial artist you can be. You actually start by learning a good defense because you are training with many people who are better than you. The offense comes a lot more naturally once you get a good base of defense.
     
  • Will I be safe?

    With any full contact sport there is always the chance of injury. However, you will be working in a controlled environment with people who will help you at your own level. Most injuries are minor and usually accidental. More serious injuries usually occur once you reach a much higher level.
